Extra Cost Of Countertops Often Missed
Daily we receive calls from potential customers wanting an estimate for new countertops. In our online quotes it usually includes a total cost for demo of existing(when applicable), material allowance, all associated fabrication cost and installation. Most customers have already seen enough kitchens online and in magazines to know what they want. Unfortunately, the cost of new countertops is not all it takes to get you that picture perfect kitchen. Here we will list 4 extra cost homeowners should consider for their future kitchen remodel….
Selecting The Best Kitchen Sink
Sinks can vary in price from our very affordable stainless steel sinks to some custom made sink from another part of the world. In todays market, their is a lot to choose from when it comes to the design you want. Your choices are usually going to consist of a self-rimming top mount sink, undermount sink or farm sink. The material can be stainless steal, cast iron, graphite, granite and many more custom made products. It’s a good idea to start looking for the type of sink you are interested in having in your kitchen. Sink size and details are good to have so you can ask your countertops fabricator if the sink you like will work with your cabinet space. Sink cost can impact the decision.
Kitchen Faucet Style
One choice that a lot of customers don’t realize they might need is a sink faucet. The sink faucet must tie in the style of your updated kitchen. It is very common for homeowners to think the will use their existing faucet. In most cases we are going from a top mount sink to a undermount sink. Although a top mount sink faucet can be used on your new countertops, they usually come with a large base plate that looks horrible in an updated application. We think the less holes we drill in your countertops, the cleaner the look. It’s recommended you get a faucet with the fewest holes needed. Just like sinks, faucets come in many designs and finishes. Pick wisely because a nice faucet adds that extra elegance to the kitchen.
Lighting….Making Your Countertops Stand Out
In order to get a picture perfect kitchen, we need to be able to see it. Dark spots and shadows on your countertops can really make or break a beautiful kitchen. During remodel is the best time to start thinking about running some under cabinet lighting……and NO! florescent bars are not an option. We always recommend customers to go with LED lighting to save energy and they don’t produce heat. It would also be a good idea to get someone to look at your ceiling lighting too….again, the florescent light box isn’t doing you any favors.
The tile backsplash is one of the important focal points in your kitchen. You have cabinet color, flooring color, countertop color…..now how do they all come together? That’s the job of the Backsplash! This is why it’s a very important part of the puzzle. Everything gets tied in together with your selection. If you think sink and faucet selections are timely, wait until you visit a tile showroom. Here you will find different material, colors, sizes, textures and much more. Then after selecting your tile, maybe you want some inserts or accent pieces. The possibilities are endless. And when it comes to cost…..it can be fairly inexpensive or just as much as the cost of your counters!
